Soundwaves Concert, Wednesday the 15th February, HMAS Cerberus.

A Review.
Their first concert for the year included new works and new members.
For their first concert in 2012, the Melbourne Detachment produced some excellent performances from what could be describe as soundscape type works from the pen of Eric Whitacre, Timothy Mahr and John Williams. The program had a bit of everything and LT Mattew Kloh conducted the works and the evening with his usual vigor we have come accustom to.

Vocal performances by ABMUSN Stephanie Monk, (Ken Monk's Daughter) with full concert band backing were exceptional, just a pity they keep persisting with that PA system that can't cope with the peak vocals Stephanie can push out.

The Brass section were in their element with the John Williams works of "Liberty Fanfare" and "Hymn to New England", while the Woodwind section were kept busy with "Sleep" and "October" by Eric Whitacre. Congratulations also must go to the percussion section, all 5 members were busy with the evenings program. The evening concluded with "Noble Element" by the featured Composer for the evening Timothy Mahr. An excellent concert which will be difficult to replicate for their next one but I'm sure Matthew will find something to better it.
